Lambeth shapes a new national research programme.
Lambeth’s communities have always found ways to come together – offering mutual support, sharing knowledge, and creating change. This matters more than ever now; as the cost of living continues to rise, community spaces continue to disappear, and the effects of climate change become harder to ignore.
Right now people across Lambeth are finding new ways to organise, collaborate and take action. If there’s one place that shows what’s possible when communities shape their own future, it’s here in Lambeth and hard-wired into the collective DNA.
But what does it really take for people in Lambeth to feel truly connected, and how can strengthening connections help communities thrive?
These are the questions we’ll be exploring together through the Centre for Collaboration in Community Connectedness, a national research programme looking at the role of connection in community building.
Lambeth is one of five places across the UK taking part; alongside communities in Sheffield, Belfast, Alloa and Talgarth, and we’re proud to be the local partner bringing this work here.
Over the coming years, until the end of 2029, we’ll work with people who live, work and socialise in Lambeth to explore what community connectedness looks like in practice, why it matters, and how it can be strengthened.
Sep 2026 - July 2027
We'll work with community organisations and residents to understand how people and groups connect with one another,
mapping the relationships across Lambeth's community sector and finding out what helps organisations collaborate and
create change.
Aug 2027 - mar 2029
We'll work with residents to look at how community spaces support connection, belonging and collective action across
the borough.
The Centre for Collaboration in Community Connectedness is an innovative national research programme taking place in five locations across the five nations of the UK: Lambeth, Sheffield, Belfast, Alloa and Talgarth.
The Brixton Project is proud to be the local partner delivering this work in Lambeth, working alongside the University of Greenwich and the wider partnership, including Sheffield Hallam University who are leading the project.
Want to help shape it from the very start? Join us on 15 September for the launch of the project in Lambeth and our first community activity.
